Jack & Olena Blackwell, Pastors

Elmhaven Skilled Nursing Facilities would like to introduce you to their pastors, Jack and Olena Blackwell. The Blackwells are longtime residents of the area. They retired from the Altamont school district after more than 30 years of service.

The last 12 years Jack has spent pastoring the Center Bethel Union Church just South of Parsons and recently retired for the second time.

In 2009 Jack and Olena gladly accepted the position of “Pastor” for Elmhaven East and West. Tuesday is their set day to visit and minister to needs of the residents at both facilities. Jack mentioned that when accepting his new role at Elmhaven they would be getting “two for the price of one”. Olena and he are a team with each one understanding and meeting residents’ needs in different ways.
As a team they can split up and make more visits or just spend a little more time with each resident.Their approach to faith is non-denominational. They treat all residents the same, simply asking if they would like to pray or if they have any specific needs. Their goal is to see everyone monthly and some residents more often or as needed. Communion is offered about every four to six weeks.

Jack and Olena are motivated by their love of people. They are happy to meet with residents’ family members upon request. Elmhaven has a Bible study for any resident wishing to participate. Volunteers from the community come into the home to lead the weekly group study. If you would like additional information about Elmhaven’s faith based services or have a comment please contact Brad Woodworth at 620-421-2431.
